Sawyer is a rustic wood pencil holder / pen cup that I hand turned on my lathe. The holder has a leather base to protect your desk. The cherry wood was sustainably sourced in nearby Fayette County, Kentucky, while the leather came from the offcuts of a leather & tack shop here in Bourbon County.
I left Portions of the pencil holder “rough” as I found the wood, and inner bark is visible on one side. The rough portions and the inner bark create a rustic feel to the piece and add to its uniqueness.
The wood is finished with high friction polish, which brings out natural changes in coloring, tone, and grain. The dimensions of this rustic wood pencil holder are 5″ tall by 4″ at its widest point. The opening measures 2-1/2″ wide with a depth of approximately 4″ deep.

A little about me….
I’m a historical archaeologist and spend my days excavating sites, analyzing artifacts, and writing up my findings. When I’m not in the field, you’ll find me in my woodshop. I primarily use found and reclaimed wood from here in Central Kentucky. It’s my hope that incorporating elements of the wood as I found it into each piece serves as a reminder that the object you see once was part of a beautiful, living tree.
