RUTHIE

Ruthie, a hand turned tobacco stick wood pen by Tanya Faberson

Ruthie is wood turned pen that I made on my lathe from Kentucky tobacco stick wood. I salvaged the tobacco stick from a more than 100-year-old barn in beautiful Jessamine County, Kentucky, near the Kentucky River. Every now and then I enjoy playing with shape and form to design a one-of-a-kind, yet comfortable-to-use, pen.

This is a Streamline-style, refillable ballpoint pen with black ink. The pen twists to extend the ink for writing and twists the opposite direction to retract.

I finished this wood turned pen with high friction polish and the wood is its natural color. Any marks, lines, or “scars” in the wood are natural and are a result of the wood having been used in a tobacco barn for about 100 years.

I include care instructions and a pen case with the purchase of this piece.

A little about me….
I’m a historical archaeologist and spend my days excavating sites, analyzing artifacts, and writing up my findings. When I’m not in the field, you’ll find me in my woodshop. I primarily use found and reclaimed wood from here in Central Kentucky. It’s my hope that incorporating elements of the wood as I found it into each piece serves as a reminder that the object you see once was part of a beautiful, living tree.
