Knox is a live edge round wood tray that I hand turned from figured sugar maple on my lathe.
Remnants of the wood’s bark are visible on the edge of the platter and the figuring on this piece is incredibly lovely. Also visible are traces of inner bark on both the face and the back of the platter. Any naturally occurring cracks have been reinforced.
All of my work is one-of-a-kind, and Knox in particular is a truly unique piece. You don’t often come across wood like this!
This wood comes from a several hundred year old sugar maple tree. Large parts of the tree began breaking off from age and after several severe storms. In spite of the challenges, the owners tried to save the tree but eventually made the difficult decision to remove it. Now the wood lives on in a new form.
This live edge round wood tray is 15-5/8″ in diameter and 1-3/4″ tall with a depth of approximately 3/4″. I finished the wood with high friction polish to enhance its natural color, grain, and tone.
As with all of my turned dishes, I include care instructions with the purchase of this piece.
