spalted beech
JUPITER
JUPITER is a spalted beech large round wooden platter that I hand turned on my lathe from wood responsibly sourced in nearby Franklin County, Kentucky. This is the very last of just a few pieces of this spalted beech wood.
This particular piece of beech has a rich depth to its coloring as well as some incredibly gorgeous figuring and spalting. Living in Central Kentucky, I am fortunate to have access to a variety of beautiful woods, but this one stands out among them. It’s a show stopper!
The round wooden platter measures approximately 15-1/2″ wide, 1-5/8″ tall, and 1″ deep and was finished with food safe walnut oil to provide a durable finish and rich luster.
Finally, I include care instructions with the purchase of this piece.

A little about me….
I’m a historical archaeologist and spend my days excavating sites, analyzing artifacts, and writing up my findings. When I’m not in the field, you’ll find me in my woodshop. I primarily use found and reclaimed wood from here in Central Kentucky. It’s my hope that incorporating elements of the wood as I found it into each piece serves as a reminder that the object you see once was part of a beautiful, living tree.
