Higgins is an exotic wood wine stopper that I hand turned on my lathe. I made this stopper from bocote wood. Bocote is an exotic tropical hardwood distributed throughout Mexico and Central/South America.
If you are familiar with my work, you will notice that I use very little exotic wood. The exotic wood that I do use is either gifted to me or comes from a non-endangered wood offcut. Offcuts are the waste pieces produced by fine furniture makers.
I finished this exotic wood wine stopper with high friction polish to enhance its natural color. The wine stopper’s total length is 5-3/4″, and its maximum width is 1-15/16″. The steel stopper portion is triple chrome plated with a silicone rubber seal.
Additionally, a drawstring fabric gift bag handmade by Lori is included with the purchase of this piece.

A little about me….
I’m a historical archaeologist and spend my days excavating sites, analyzing artifacts, and writing up my findings. When I’m not in the field, you’ll find me in my woodshop. I primarily use found and reclaimed wood from here in Central Kentucky. It’s my hope that incorporating elements of the wood as I found it into each piece serves as a reminder that the object you see once was part of a beautiful, living tree.
