tobacco stick

BASS

BASS is Kentucky tobacco stick hand turned wood pen. Coming up with original pen forms can be a challenge, but it’s a challenge I enjoy. And I really enjoyed making this pen!

I found the tobacco stick in an old barn in Jessamine County, Kentucky, near the Kentucky River. Any marks, lines, or “scars” in the wood are natural and are a result of the wood being used in a tobacco barn for about 100 years.

I finished this tobacco stick hand turned wood pen with high friction polish to retain its natural color. It twists to extend the ink for writing and twists the opposite direction to retract. Additionally, the pen is refillable and comes with care instructions to help it last for many years to come.

A little about me….
I’m a historical archaeologist and spend my days excavating sites, analyzing artifacts, and writing up my findings. When I’m not in the field, you’ll find me in my woodshop. I primarily use found and reclaimed wood from here in Central Kentucky. It’s my hope that incorporating elements of the wood as I found it into each piece serves as a reminder that the object you see once was part of a beautiful, living tree.
